Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs

The Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs provides assistance to Excelsior Springs and surrounding rural communities. (Click here to see if you live in their service area). Families and individuals are helped with food, shelter, utilities, transportation help, household and medical needs. Caseworkers are also engaged in helping clients find the causes as well as a solution to their distress. The goal is to encourage and to urge participants toward self-awareness. Caseworkers assist with budgeting, cooking and parenting as needed.

Their services include:

▪   They provide emergency assistance from the hours of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. This assistance can include food, shelter, meeting with a case worker, and other similar services.

▪   A Free Medical Clinic from 8 to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning. The clinic is available to families and individuals who do not have medical insurance.

Kansas City Free Clinic:

The purpose of Kansas City Free Health Clinic is to promote health and wellness by providing quality services, at no charge, to people without access to basic care. This clinic provides all of its care free of charge to its patients. They specifically provide quite an HIV testing and care program for youth.

Rosedale Healthy Kids Initiative

The Rosedale Healthy Kids Initiative (HKI) is a community effort to reduce childhood obesity in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City (note: except for the online resources, services are for Rosedale residents only) by promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all residents.

Swope Health Services:

Swope Health Services seeks to help develop self-empowered, healthy people in healthy communities by providing primary health care, outreach and behavioral health services throughout the greater Kansas City area. They provide comprehensive medical services to people below the poverty line and have specific programs to aid those that find themselves homeless.

Mental Health and Counseling Services

Synergy Services:

Synergy offers a variety of services including Domestic Violence support groups and counseling, Family counseling, teen counseling, teen parent support groups and parent classes.

ReDiscover offers mental health and substance abuse treatment for all ages and for people with all ranges of need. They provide these services through on site treatment, in home programs, as well as live-in programs.  All services are provided to people with limited ability to pay.

Truman Medical Center

Truman Medical Center offers mental health assessments, psychiatric and medication services, and substance abuse treatment services.

Tri-County Mental Health

Tri-County Mental Health provides an array of comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention services for individuals and families in Clay, Platte, and Ray counties. Their services provided regardless of clients ability to pay.

Northland Family Counseling Center:

Northland provides partial hospital day treatment and intensive outpatient for substance abuse. They also provide anger management as well as individual and group counseling.

MOCSA operates a 24-hour crisis line for support and info on sexual violence. They also provide therapy and support groups for rape victims, sexually abused children, and adult survivors of sexual abuse

Mattie Rhodes Center:

Mattie Rhodes center provides counseling and case management, assistance for domestic violence victims, substance abuse treatment, family education and support, general health and wellness services, and youth development programs.

Healthy Families Counseling and Support

Healthy Families provides in home and community based parenting education and mental health treatment services. The in home parenting support is targeted towards first time parents especially.

The Family Conservancy

Family Conservancy provides family counseling, financial education, and parenting education. They offer their services in both English and Spanish.

Women’s Health and Pregnancy Assistance and Shelters

Keeler Women’s Center

The Keeler Women’s Center is a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Atchison, Kansas, focused on empowering women in the urban core of Kansas City through education, advocacy, personal, and spiritual development.

Mother’s Refuge Home:

Mother’s Refuge Home shelters and educates homeless, pregnant and parenting young women by providing comprehensive services that empower them to make successful life decisions for themselves and their babies.  They provide a home and full care for pregnant teens. They may be admitted into the program at any time during their pregnancy and can stay for up to one year in the program.

Their services include:

▪   While in the home the mothers have access to medical care, individual and group counseling, food, clothing, mandatory participation in education and/or job training, childbirth/parenting classes, practical life skills classes and independent living skills training

▪   They also have an aftercare and Transitional Living Program continues to provide support after the mother and child leave the home

Guadalupe Center

The Guadalupe Center provides services for Latina pregnant teens.

Their services include:

Birthright works with those who experience unplanned pregnancy to help them in making a decision about their pregnancy through one-on-one contact to provide personal attention to provide knowledge of the many options available to pregnant teens. Birthright is prepared to help whether you are single or married regardless of age, race or religion.

Liberty Pregnancy Crisis Center

Liberty Pregnancy Crisis Center provides pregnancy testing, limited ultra-sounds, options counseling, prenatal, parenting, birthing classes, referrals for diapers, formula, and clothing. All services are confidential.

Rachel House:

Rachel House provides Free Medical Pregnancy Tests, Ultrasounds, Pregnancy verification, Community Referrals, and Educational Opportunities. All results and information is confidential.  For more detailed information about their services, click here.

Lighthouse provides a variety of services for pregnant teens.  They operate a maternity shelter for pregnant teens 12-21. They also provide outreach services to provide parenting life skills for any pregnant female-attendees earn coupons for baby needs. They also have adoption counselors and an adoption agency. Through their Baby Boutique they provide clothing and other materials needs for mothers and babies.

Grace Center:

The Grace Center is a maternity home for under age women, ages 10-18. They can stay for up to 6 months following the birth of their baby.  While there each girl is offered individual counseling to help her make important decisions about her baby’s future. If she decides to raise the child, Grace Center will help her prepare for the responsibilities of motherhood. If she chooses adoption, the center will refer her to the proper social service agencies and offer counseling to prepare her for the separation.

Veronica’s Voice

VV is Kansas City’s only recovery program dedicated solely to victims of prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation.  The overall goal of VERONICA’S Voice is to offer compassionate and non-judgmental counseling and services through peer, survivor-ran services. VERONICA’S Voice offers individuals who are sexually exploited an opportunity to be educated and empowered to take back their lives.

Their services include:

▪   SAFE Center: The SAFE Center offers walk-in services to help with basic human needs: showers, clothing, food, phone use and referrals. The SAFE Center also provides a place for most of VV programming and services. It is open Monday-Friday 10:00am- 6:00pm. Contact them at 816-483-7101 for location information.

▪   Veronica’s Intervention Program (VIP) which works with the Municipal Court of Jackson County Missouri to offer women who have been arrested for prostitution an opportunity to seek help with VERONICA’S Voice, often in lieu of jail time. These clients are provided with a needs assessment based on history and current profile.
